It's that time again - A Cockers on the Beach update!
This year we are meeting on a slightly earlier date than first planned (due to tides) on
Saturday 3rd October at 14.30 (to walk out at 3pm)
|
|
If you fancy joining us on Appley Beach for a gentle walk down to Appley Tower (and maybe further). We will be meeting up on the first piece of Beach next to the Marina at 14:30. The plan will be the same as always - meet, chat, photos and then head of for the walk at about 15:00. The tide should hopefully be low enough for us to complete the whole walk on the beach without using the footpaths at all.
|
| We are nornally out chatting and walking for a good three hours so make sure you and your dog are wrapped up well. The weather down here on our little Island can and does change very quickly (anyone who came easter 2008 will remember the snow storm that caught us by surprise). So a nice warm coat, scarf and gloves can always be carried if the sun does decide to come out. |

Warm waterproof boots are a must and if you don't have a waterproof coat (Equafleece) for your swimming spaniel please remember to bring a towel for the ferry ride home as a cold doggy is not a happy doggy. If you plan to buy an Equafleece before you travel down remember to measure your dog as these fleeces do stretch slightly when wet and a dry/tighter fit is better. Most cockers are a size 20, if your cocker is on the large size (not fat like Suki she still wears a 20) but just generally taller and longer then a size 22 should do. Poor Dora last year had a 24 and she fell out of it while swimming, most embarrasing for a young lady to lose her swimming costume in front of onlookers. |
| Swimming of course is not totally necessary but you may be surprised - Your non-swimming cocker might get carried away with all the fun and have a splash about in the water with our mad bunch. |
|
 |
All the cockers (so far and this will be the fifth gathering) mix really well. As yet we haven't had a cross bark or show of bossyness from any of them and with over 30 dogs on the beach playing together I think that's brillant. With so many of our babies attending the gathering it's a great chance for owners to meet up and have a chat about the funny little things their dog(s) get up to. Please feel free to mix and make new friends as every one is really friendly and a cocker owner is always happy to talk about their dog :) |
|
So remember!
- Come along and join us
- Wrap up Warm
- Make new friends and meet some old ones
- keep that Doglet warm
& of course
- Bring Pooh Bags as we like our beaches to stay lovely and clean for everyone to enjoy

This event is "Cockers on the Beach" and that means any cocker!!! If you own a cocker or are thinking about getting a Cocker Spaniel please come along and join us - the more the merrier!
Our Friends & Owners of DC Cockers come from all over the UK to meet us and their dog's litter mates each year on the beach and we are so looking forward to this next meeting.

The meeting point is about a 20-15 minute walk from the Wightlink FastCat ferry that comes in at the end of Ryde Pier and two minutes walk from the the Hover Port.

Looks like we might have rain on Saturday so make sure you bring your wet weather gear and a towel for doglet. see you all soon Px
No plan yet for the 2010 walk, sorry. I will have to wait a while before I can get a tidal report, as our walk is planned around low tide afternoons. as soon as I know info and dates will be posted on here :)
We look forward to meeting you and your cockers.

Love the sound of "cockers on the beach" what a brilliant day out. I have two cocker boys, Oliver and Cooper (17 months and 4 months). They would love this, but unfortunately I live in Essex and cannot just pop across for the day. Hopefully will be able to make the Easter 2010 one though. Do you know yet when that will be?
Can't wait to meet some like minded people.
