Walking to the Long Stone at Mottistone Print E-mail

A beautiful walk through National Trust Countryside, the paths are clear and easy going, and as the area is NT dogs are allowed to run about freely.  Bear in mind there are wild ponies on the downs and they can bite and kick if you or the dogs approch to closely.

The area is beautiful and the views are simply stuning so take your camera along with you.

There are no streams or ponds so drinking water for the dogs is also something you will need to carry with you - although, there is a lovely muddy puddle that the dogs seemed to enjoy!

The Long Stone itself is roughly a mile from the car park.  It's about a 30 minute gentle walk up hill (make sure you stay on the gravelled path on the way up that way you can't miss the stone).

This was what I would class as a 5 star walk!!!!! and one we will definitely return to again and again.

This walk is part of the Tennyson Trail and it is possible to walk from Carisbrook Castle right through to the Tennyson Monument.

There's a good pub in Mottison called "The Sun".  They serve food from 12noon and the car park is always busy when we drive past which is a good sign.
